when i was 5 a boy was horrible to me in school and i was very scared. when i told my mum to help she said "sorry luv but i cant, you have to fight your own battles". ill never forget the feeling of utter terror and aloneness when she said that. when i told dad, she said the same thing again "you have to fight your own battles". this changed my brain forever and i never really trusted anything she said to me afterwards till i was much older. even tho i love her and still do, i never felt so sad and scared as that moment and when i remember that sense of loss of security i feel sad.
All parents break their children in some way. Everyone, absolutely everyone, has some variation of this memory of feeling unprotected. Including your mam.
