It's an investment in the future for heaven's sake. That support is there in an effort to ensure that children are better raised and better educated, so that down the line, the country saves money in terms of health and unemployment. You can't seriously believe that we shouldn't support this country's future?

I have no kids and I choose to be that way so it does annoy me when I see young ones making a career out of having kids and I have to pay for it. However, I don't blame the mothers I blame the Government and the System. This country needs some serious reform and heads need to roll............Bring back the Tudors :)

Firstly you should leave this country for China - Irelands constitution promotes an anti abortion pro family country - two parents working. Now I'm not going to argue if this is the right aptitude or not but if that is what the country promotes that is what they should support.

I'm with you all the way! I find it hard to take that friends of mine who had kids young were given all the grants in the world and houses to live it - while there are so many poor people out there on the streets who need more help than girls who chose to have children when they could not afford them

What a completely ignorant statement! It is like saying you think none of your tax should be used for roads or infrastructure because you dont drive a car! Like it or not, roads are vital to the survival of the country whether you drive a car or not, as are children.. as a previous poster mentions, they'll be paying your way when you are old and lonely. Ofcourse they give out about them! Having kids is major work and heart breaking at the best of times. And they're expensive! If someone is genuine, they deserve all the help the government can give them to raise their children properly, give them a good education etc........... but its losers that screw the system that should be targeted.........
