Tipping

Can I ask what peoples views on tipping are i.e. if you go for lunch and it costs €20/€25 should you leave a tip?. Or if you get your hair blowdryed which costs about 20 quid should I leave a tip?. I never know what to do. Obviously for dinner and a more expensive hair colour or whatever I would definetly leave a 10% tip, just not sure what the etiquette is for the smaller costs?

always always tip both beauty therapists, hairdressers and restaurant servers, yes we have minimum wage, but seriously for the amount of work these people do, its hardly enough. Plus most young beauticians, and hairdressers are on apprenticeship pay, which means less than minimum wage!

Did my thesis on tips, i can tell you Irish people don't tip, and in this day and age its less and less popular, we have minimum wage set in legislation which protects the servers, they don't need tips. I'm old fashioned i tip if it was friendly and good

10 percent if the service was decent, considering there is already a service charge and you get paid already and you pool the tips, you should count yourself luck you get anything at all.

Agreed. Most Dublin restaurants are over-priced and in comparision to other cities abroad the quality of food, even in supposedly 'the best' places in Dublin, is not great.

to right were does the waiter think hes livin the states? in this day and age people are lucky to even eat out! in comparason to other counteries the standard of food is low with high prices we need to cop on.

Waiters get paid for what they do, and the pay isn't bad. If the service is good give them 10%, if it's crap give them nothing. Why reward someone for poor or mediocre service?

omg the person who answered this a.b.c. you have a problem. how is it the server's fault if the food is bad. do you even know how much server's get paid? no one who hasn't waited tables should be allowed to eat out. You should tip AT LEAST 15 pc. otherwise you are being unbelievably selfish. If I have a meal with s1 who refuses to tip, i never eat with them again. period.
